Francesca Simeon
My name is Francesca and I am going into University this Fall 2020. I wasn’t if I wanted to pursue pharmacy or nursing and I hope to figure that out in my first year. I have participated in the HLF Program because I wanted to learn the other self care practices and educate myself as well as others. I have always tried to make sometime for me to practice self care before this program. This program encouraged me practice it daily and have been apart of my daily routine. I usually try to do it in the morning because it really sets my mood for the day and it has made my days better.
Jasmine Do
My name is Jasmine Do and I've been participating in the HLF Scholarship Program.
Through this program I have learned a lot about self-care and mental wellness. I've had the opportunity to participate in various workshops such as sound healing, nutrition, and yoga just to name a few.
Participating in this program has helped me focus on self-care more regularly. It has affected me in a very positive way. Trying to handle stress was one of my biggest problems throughout high school. Through this program I've gained tools that I can use to manage it in a healthier way.
In the fall I'll be attending the University of Manitoba. I've been accepted into the Faculty of Engineering and hope to major in biosystems/biomedical engineering. As I transition from high school to university, I will be bringing along the self-care techniques that I have learned from this program!
Matthew Lavoie
My name is Matthew Lavoie and I come from Starbuck Manitoba. I currently attend the University of Manitoba and after a long and eventful journey, I am entering into my last year as a marketing major in the Bachelor of Commerce program. I am very open to where my career in business can take me but I hope to be in a position where I can contribute and improving mental health and wellness programs for Canadians.
I am very grateful for HLF and all I have learned so far in the program. During my last year‘s of University, I lost my brother due to mental illness. The grief of losing my brother and added stress of a university student became too much to manage. HLF was there for me and taught me about self-care which allowed me to not only succeed in University, but become a mentally strong individual.
I am super excited to join the HLF team, as it is an opportunity for me to become a part of something I am passionate about, and is my first step towards helping improve mental health programs for other students. I look forward to my future with HLF.
